TEZCAN M. YARAMANCI, CBE

Born in 1942, Mr. Yaramancı graduated from İstanbul German School in 1960 and obtained Master degrees in Mechanical Engineering (1966) as well as in Business Administration (1968), both from Hannover Technical University, Germany.

Between 1968 and 1991 Mr. Yaramancı served at different management positions in the Koç Group, Turkey's largest and most respected business conglomerate. In 1974 he was appointed as President of the Group's Asil Çelik Specialty Steel Company and in 1981 he joined Koç Holding Headquarters as a Senior Vice President. Becoming an Executive Vice President in 1987, Mr. Yaramancı shared the top management responsibility of the Group and controlled various major Koç Group companies in areas such as industry, trade, construction, services and finance, acting as Chairman or Managing Director in these companies.

Upon the request of the Prime Minister in January 1992, Mr. Yaramancı joined the government sector and was appointed as the President and the CEO of Turkish Airlines (THY), where he realized a substantial restructuring in a two-years period of time, developing the Company into one of the major commercial carriers in Europe.

By January 1994 Mr. Yaramancı was appointed as the president of the Public Participation Administration, the former governmental organization for the financing of major infrastructural projects and the privatization of the state owned enterprises. In addition to his responsibilities in the ongoing privatization and project financing activities, Mr. Yaramancı assumed also the responsibility of designing new privatization strategies, policies and organization. So he created The Privatization Law Nr. 4046, which still represents the conseptual and legal framework for the present privatization approach of Turkey.

During the same period, being member of the High Economic Council, Mr. Yaramancı took an active role in the overall coordination of the Turkish economy, and retained also his control over THY as Chairman of the Board.

With the promulgation of the Privatization Law at the end of 1994, Mr. Yaramancı resigned from his governmental offices to return back to the private sector and accepted the Vice Chairman position at Doğan Holding. Here he controlled a group of 13 companies which operates in the media sector and which includes Turkey's leading daily newspaper Hürriyet as well as Kanal-D TV Channel. During the same period he was also active in Dışbank as a member of the Board.

In 1996, ending his career as a professional executive, Mr. Yaramancı established his own company, İNVESTA Consulting and Communications Inc. and became a partner in EVG Investments, a major brokerage house at İstanbul Stock Exchange. Today, still maintaining close relations with government authorities and agencies, Mr. Yaramancı is active in the financial services sector and acts as advisor to foreign and local private business circles and carriers also Board Level responsibilities in some private sector companies. The Chairmanship of BankEuropa and Memberships in the Board of Directors of Borusan Mannesman Holding, Borusan Mannesman Pipe Inc. and Delta Petrol Inc. can be listed among such responsibilities.

Being member of major business associations, Mr. Yaramancı served as a Director of the Board in TUSİAD, The Association of Turkish Industrialists and Businessmen and in TSPAKB the Association of Capital Market Institutions of Turkey. Furthermore Mr. Yaramancı is also active in other social, cultural and professional associations.

He has been decorated by Her Majesty the Queen Elizabeth II, with the title of "Honorary Commander of the British Empire" for his support and contributions to the British-Turkish relations, which he still continues as Chairman of the Turkish - British Business Council.

Fluent in German and English, Mr.Yaramancı is married to Mihrinur, former Kuleli, since 1971 and has two daughters, Begüm (1974) and Banu (1978).
